Why Your AC Runs but Doesn't Cool
It's one of the most frustrating problems for a Florida homeowner: the system is running, you can hear it, but the air just isn't cold. Here are the most common causes.
1. Dirty air filter
A clogged filter chokes airflow and can even freeze your coil. Check and replace it first.
2. Frozen evaporator coil
Restricted airflow or low refrigerant can freeze the coil into a block of ice, stopping cooling entirely.
3. Low refrigerant / leak
If your system is low on refrigerant, it can't remove heat. This requires a professional to find and repair the leak.
4. Dirty outdoor condenser
A condenser caked in dirt and grass clippings can't release heat. Keep two feet of clearance around it.
5. Failing compressor
The compressor is the heart of your AC. If it fails, the system runs but produces no cooling.
